STORIES OF A YELLOW TOWN

Stories of a Yellow Town is an emotional & enlightening journey that documents the first time Brazilians came to Gort in Co. Galway to the present day. Using a sparse set consisting of little more than suitcases and hats, the Gombeens invite the audience into an hilarious and touching world that engages the real issues from start to finish.

Armed with a little guitar, a tape recorder and an immense desire to listen, the two Gombeens, spent six months immersing themselves in the small town of Gort in County Galway. Their goal was to record real-life personal stories by interviewing the local community of Brazilians & Irish. Stories that were collected in community gatherings, internet cafes, grocery shops, the street and peoples' homes are retold to the audience exactly as they were first heard in the words of the people of Gort .

Stories of a Yellow Town is a remarkable insight into struggles, misunderstandings and happy incidents that occur when two communities, side by side, are left to get on with life. A powerful perspective on today’s Ireland told with humour and insight, delight and hope.

Stories of a Yellow Town is a show designed for an intimate and smale-scale indoor venue. Up to this day the show has been performed in Arts Centres, pubs, social and resource centres, libraries, small theatres and if you are brave enough, the front room of peoples' houses.
